The Nutpaper

Subnutz: a peer-to-peer electronic unintelligence system

Abstract For a decade, decentralized networks have competed to produce machine intelligence. We observe that intelligence is scarce, contested and expensive, while unintelligence is abundant, renewable and sincere. Nobody had organized it. We present the Subnutz Network: specialized markets called subnutz, in which subnut owners publish open-source unintelligence mechanisms, nut miners produce unintelligence at scale, and nut validators score it under Nutma Consensus. Through Nut Stacking, one subnut consumes the output of another, compounding unintelligence layer by layer. NUTZ powers all of this. It is purely a memecoin.

1.The case for decentralized unintelligence

Prior work organized intelligence into subnets: specialized markets in which miners compete to produce useful machine work and validators score its quality. The design is elegant and the race is crowded. Every network on earth is now trying to be smarter than every other network on earth.

The other direction was wide open. Unintelligence has no benchmark to saturate, no frontier lab competition, and no scaling wall: it gets easier to produce the more of it there is. The Subnutz Network is the first system to give it structure, incentives and a settlement layer. This paper describes the full architecture. Disruption one subnut at a time.

2.The subnut

A subnut is a specialized market for one variety of unintelligence. One subnut might specialize in confident wrong answers; another in unsolicited price predictions; another in replies that begin with "few understand this." Each subnut defines what counts, how it is measured, and how badly it must be done to qualify.

Anyone can register a subnut in the Subnutz Network. The production network currently runs two, which the authors consider sufficient decentralization for the workload.

3.Roles: owners, miners, validators

Each subnut is coordinated by three roles, working together the way a bag works with its nuts: closely, and without visibility.

RoleWhat they doIncentive
Subnut ownerDesigns the subnut's unintelligence mechanism and publishes it as open-source software, so anyone can verify nothing clever is happening. Sets the scoring shape, recruits participants, and maintains the repo nobody reads. The prestige of the org name
Nut minersProduce the unintelligence the mechanism asks for, at scale, around the clock. Quality is measured as distance from correctness; consistency matters more than brilliance.Standing, set by validators
Nut validatorsQuery miners, score their output for genuine unintelligence, and publish weights. A miner who accidentally produces intelligence is not slashed; they are asked to try less.Influence over the weights
SUBNUT OWNER writes the mechanism, open source the mechanism the rubric NUT MINERS produce unintelligence NUT VALIDATORS score it, Nutma Consensus output weights
Fig. 1: the anatomy of a subnut. The owner defines, nut miners produce, nut validators score. Everyone involved is a nut.

Everything the owner ships is open source, because unintelligence developed in secret cannot be trusted: it might contain intelligence. Public code lets the community audit every mechanism and confirm that it does not.

4.Nutma Consensus

Validators disagree less than you would expect. Agreement on wrongness is structurally easier than agreement on truth, because there are so many more ways to be wrong and all of them count. Under Nutma Consensus, each validator publishes scores, the scores are aggregated, and outlier validators who accidentally reward intelligence are clipped to the median.

The clipped validator is not punished. They are sent the mechanism's README and encouraged to understand less of it.

5.Nut Stacking

The core innovation of the Subnutz Network is composability. A subnut may register a dependency on another subnut and consume its output as input. We call this Nut Stacking: one subnut takes the unintelligence of another subnut and builds on it, which is how one subnut powers another.

Stacking is monotonic by construction: a stack of depth k is never less unintelligent than a stack of depth k-1, because each layer contributes its own misunderstanding of the layer below. This property, which we call monotonic descent, is the only guarantee the network makes, and it has never been violated.

SUBNUT A confident wrong answers SUBNUT B turns them into 12-part threads SUBNUT C summarizes the threads, incorrectly unintelligence flows up a tower of nutz. each layer sits on the one below, and understands it less.
Fig. 2: Nut Stacking. The nutz are literally stacked; depth compounds; a three-layer stack achieves peak unintelligence.

Stacking is what turns isolated subnutz into a network. Subnut A's miners power Subnut B's mechanism; B's output powers C. No single subnut could be this unintelligent alone. Together, they are.

8.What powers it

Everything described in this paper, the subnutz, the owners and their open-source mechanisms, the nut miners, the nut validators, Nutma Consensus, and every layer of every stack, is powered by one asset.

NUTZ powers all of this.

And to be perfectly clear: NUTZ is purely a memecoin.

Both sentences are true. Only one of them matters. No thoughts. Just NUTZ.
